Jay Kouba, Chairman of the Board, President and Chief Executive Officer Jay Kouba, Ph.D., has served as President and Chief Executive Officer since May 2007, Chairman of the Board since April 2007, and Director since June 2006. Prior to joining Metabolix Dr. Kouba has served as the President of Oniro Consulting, a strategic management consulting firm. From January 1999 to December 2005, Dr. Kouba held several positions with BP's Petrochemicals Segment. From August 2004 to December 2005, Dr. Kouba served as senior vice president, strategy, marketing and technology for Innovene BP's olefins and polymers subsidiary, and earlier in 2004, as Vice President, Sales, Marketing and Logistics. Between 1999 and 2003, Dr. Kouba was Vice President, Technology. Dr. Kouba received a B.S. in Chemistry from Stanford University, a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Harvard University and a M.B.A. from University of Chicago. Dr. Oliver P. Peoples, Chief Scientific Officer, Vice President R&D, Director Dr. Peoples co-founded Metabolix in 1992 and currently holds the position of Chief Scientific Officer with responsibility for leading the Company’s overall scientific programs. He has directed the Company’s intellectual property effort, which has successfully prosecuted and extended the Company’s patent position to cover all aspects of the Mirel business from genes to products. Dr. Peoples received a Ph.D. in molecular biology from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland in 1984. He then moved to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and was appointed as a research scientist in the Department of Biology in 1988, where he emerged as one of the creators of the new fields of metabolic pathway engineering and biopolymer engineering. He holds many patents related to the genomics and production of Mirels including the first U.S. Patents on the expression of Mirel genes in crop plants. Edward Giles is a Director of Metabolix. Since 1988, he has been the Chairman of The Vertical Group, a venture capital Company that succeeded the venture capital activities of F. Eberstadt & Co. Prior to then he was the President of F. Eberstadt & Co. beginning in 1979, and Vice Chairman of Eberstadt Fleming beginning in 1985. Mr. Giles received a B.Ch.E. from Princeton University in 1957, and a S.M. (Industrial Management) from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1959. Peter N. Kellogg is currently Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Merck & Co. He was Executive Vice President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer of Biogen Idec from November 2003 until August 2007. Prior to the Biogen Idec merger, Mr. Kellogg was Executive Vice President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer of Biogen, Inc. after serving as Vice President - Finance and Chief Financial Officer since July 2000. He joined Biogen, Inc. in 2000 from PepsiCo Inc., where he most recently served as Senior Vice President, PepsiCo E-Commerce from March to July 2000 and as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Frito-Lay International, from March 1998 to March 2000. From 1987 to 1998, he served in a variety of senior financial, international and general management positions at PepsiCo and the Pepsi-Cola International, Pepsi-Cola North America, and Frito-Lay International divisions. Prior to joining PepsiCo, Mr. Kellogg was a senior consultant with Arthur Andersen & Co. and Booz Allen & Hamilton. Jack W. Lasersohn has been a general partner of the Vertical Group G.P., a private venture capital firm, since 1989. From 1981 through 1989, Mr. Lasersohn was a Vice President and later Director of the venture capital group of F. Eberstadt & Co., Inc. Mr. Lasersohn serves on the boards of a number of private and public companies. He received his B.S. (Physics) from Tufts University in 1975, M.A. (International Affairs) from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy in 1975, and a J.D. from Yale Law School in 1978. Edward Muller was formerly CEO of the Halcon/SD Group, and joined Metabolix in 1993 as Chairman and CEO. He served as President and CEO until January 2000. At Halcon, Mr. Muller was employed in a number of functions, both technical and financial, and ultimately served as CEO of the Halcon/SD Group. Halcon developed several key processes used in the production of raw materials for the polyester, nylon, polystyrene, and polyurethane industries. Mr. Muller held various positions in technology evaluation, financing and venture planning. He has also served as a Director and played important roles in planning for other ventures such as Optelec and OCA. He received a B.Ch.E. from The Cooper Union in 1959, and a M.B.A. (finance and economics) from New York University in 1968. Robert L. Van Nostrand, Director Robert L. Van Nostrand has served as a director since October 2006. He is currently Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of AGI Dermatics, a bio-pharmaceutical laboratory specializing in skin photobiology. Previously, Mr. Van Nostrand was with OSI Pharmaceuticals, Inc. for 21 years, most recently as the Senior Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer from 2005 until August 2007, and as the Vice President and Chief Financial Officer from 1996 through 2005. Prior to joining OSI, Mr. Van Nostrand was in a managerial position with Touche Ross & Co. (currently Deloitte and Touche). Mr. Van Nostrand serves on the board of directors of Apex Bioventures, Inc., a special purpose acquisition company focused in life sciences, and is Chairman of its audit committee, and he is on the board of Achillion Pharmaceuticals, Inc, a biotechnology company focused on infectious disease, and is Chairman of its audit committee. Mr. Van Nostrand received a B.S. in Accounting from Long Island University, New York, and completed advanced management studies at the Wharton School. Mr. Van Nostrand is a Certified Public Accountant. Professor Anthony J. Sinskey, Sc.D., Director Dr. Sinskey was a cofounder of Metabolix in 1992, and has served as a Director of the Company since that time. He is a Professor of Microbiology in the Department of Biology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Dr. Sinskey is a well recognized expert on metabolic pathway engineering, including the transgenic methods for production of the Company’s polymers, and is a joint inventor of Metabolix’s transgenic production technology. Dr. Sinskey received a Sc.D. from MIT in 1966. Matthew Strobeck, Ph.D., has served as director since September 2006. From May 2003 to the present, Dr. Strobeck has served as a senior investment analyst at Westfield Capital Management, specializing in healthcare and life sciences. Dr. Strobeck previously served as a consultant to the senior economic advisor to the commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration from August 2003 to May 2004. Prior to the Food and Drug Administration, Dr. Strobeck was a fellow in the Department of Biology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from December 2001 to June 2002. Dr. Strobeck received his B.S. from St. Lawrence University, a Ph.D. from the University of Cincinnati, a S.M. from Harvard University and a S.M. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Sloan School of Management.
